Biological Restoration of Urban Soils after De-Sealing Interventions

نویسندگان

چکیده

Most urban greening interventions involve soil de-sealing and management to enhance fertility. Management typically requires translocating fertile topsoil the site, which comes at great environmental costs. We hypothesized that de-sealed soils would undergo an increase of their fertility without exogenous application. assessed experimental plots with topsoil, topsoil. Both treatments were vegetated two ornamental shrub species irrigated. Soil was analyzed by chemical (total organic carbon) biological indicators (biological quality index microbial activities). Since metal contamination is related soil, we also monitored concentration Zn, Cu Pb in detected it plant leaves. The results demonstrate rapidly restore Restoration can contribute recent growing interest reclamation for improving environment through restoration functions ecosystem services. Overall, this study improve functionality quality.

Chemical, Physical, and Biological Characteristics of Urban Soils

Urban soils provide an array of ecosystem services to inhabitants of cities and towns. Urbanization affects soils and their capacity to provide ecosystem services directly through disturbance and management (e.g., irrigation) and indirectly through changes in the environment (e.g., heat island effect and pollution). Both direct and indirect effects contribute to form a mosaic of soil conditions...

Active Distribution Networks Restoration after Extreme Events

After extreme events such as floods, thunderstorms, blizzards and hurricanes there will be devastating effects in the distribution networks which may cause a partial or complete blackout. Then, the major concern for the system operators is to restore the maximum critical loads as soon as possible by available generation units.  In order to solve this problem, this paper provides a restoration s...

Effects of urbanization and urban stream restoration on the physical and biological structure of stream ecosystems.

Streams, as low-lying points in the landscape, are strongly influenced by the stormwaters, pollutants, and warming that characterize catchment urbanization. River restoration projects are an increasingly popular method for mitigating urban insults. Despite the growing frequency and high expense of urban stream restoration projects, very few projects have been evaluated to determine whether they...

Restoration challenges for urban rivers.

Urban sources account for significant quantities of important diffuse pollutants, and urban watercourses are typically badly polluted. As well as toxic metals, hydrocarbons including PAHs, and suspended matter, priority urban pollutants include faecal pathogens and nutrients. Can urban watercourses be restored by sufficient reductions in pollution loads? Case studies in the UK and Sweden provid...
